Just like every other sport has a particular dress norm, golf too has its own dress rules. Obviously only the best will do so you will need to go to a specialist outfitter to have yourself kitted out. Though different golf course are guided by their individual rules, if you know what are the most acceptable dress norms, you can have a more fruitful experience. Some golf course will actually stop a player from enjoying a round of golf if he is considered inappropriately attired. This can leave you flustered and upset when you are not allowed to play your favorite game, just because you could not adhere to their dress norms.
Several aspects of male attire is not permitted on any golf course they try to play at. The two things that are not suitable in a golf course are shirts with no collar or no sleeve. Another area that is a no-no is the use of running pants and shoes that have metal studs. Clothes with displeasing logos or repulsive slogans on them are not allowed too. Moreover, sporting jeans or sandals are prohibited and this applies to women too.
Men can wear shorts however or fitted pants and any shirt they wear must have a collar plus foot ware must consist of sports or golfing shoes. Golf shoes must only have the soft spikes fitted because if a golfer wears shoes with metal spikes the will be asked to leave as they make extra work for the grounds man with the damage the bring. Your shirts can either have long or short sleeves and there is no problem with turtlenecks or pullover sweaters. Trainer socks cannot be worn - they must be of normal length and not contain garish logos so plain is better.
There are other things to take along when golfing like the golf hand towel. Your golf hand towels will help you wipe the sweat from your clubs. Find ton of great buys on hand towels here.
For women you can wear such things as fitted shorts, properly fitting skirts and even Capri’s. Jeans, shorts or otherwise are not allowed neither are full length pants either. Remember though that shorts and skirts must not be too short and the general rule is no more than five inches above the knee. Although it not uncommon for a golf course to insist that the length of shorts and shirts is even longer. As far as shirts are concerned, like the men, they must also have a collar and if a sweater is chosen it must be a v-neck.
Sleeveless shirts are allowed for women but they must have collars or they should wear shirts with either long or short sleeves. Their socks must be ankle length with proper golf shoes (or sports) and if they wish a hat or visor if they prefer. The rules regarding socks for men are the same for women - so nothing garish. It is also important to understand that anyone you take with you to a golf course must also have appropriate attire. As stated above the exact dress code for the golf course where you play may vary, a quick check of their website, or a quick phone call should clear up any questions you have in regards to what is appropriate and what is not if you have any questions.
