Every day your face is beaten and battered by the elements. It must withstand the harsh sunlight, blistering wind, extreme cold, and, in ever-increasing amounts, pollution. Your face needs to be exercised in order to combat these elements and to decrease the appearance of aging.
Facial exercise is common practice by aestheticians to ease blood flow before performing such procedures as microdermabrasion, facials and peels. Tenseness in the face, caused by general stress, can inhibit blood flow in these areas. The exercises have an ability to relieve this tension and increase blood flow.
Massage therapists treat the face by pressing on certain areas of the face with the tips of their fingers and rubbing gently towards the top of the head and to the sides. They may also use light pinches to relieve the tension.
Facial exercises are also advised by doctors in the treatment of certain medical conditions like TMJ. This disease causes faulty movement of the temporomandibular joint and it results in pain, headaches amongst other symptoms. The area around the jaw including the cheekbone is massaged to help manage this condition.
Another benefit of facial exercises is a lighter complexion because when you exercise your facial muscles there is an increased blood flow that permits more oxygen to reach skin cells. Old cells are replaced by new ones and thus the complexion lightens.
The wrinkles that can start to show as one becomes older can also be prevented with the use of facial exercise. Exercises can in some cases even remove wrinkles that have already appeared. In order to increase the beneficial effects of exercise on the face, one must start exercising from an early age.
Facial exercises can also help you rid yourself of deep wrinkles, expression lines, dark under eye circles, puffiness around the eyes, sagging and papery skin. Protecting your face from the sun, eating right, consuming enough water, regular exercise and getting enough sleep are all steps to take in order to reduce the effects of age on our faces.
When exercising oneas face, it is important to not fail to also care for the neck. Neck exercise serves much the same purpose as facial exercise. It is important to note that the neck is much more sensitive than the face and care must be taken to prevent injury. In general, exercising oneas face is a more natural, less risky alternative to plastic surgery and may yield, with time, much the same results.
