Tinnitus is common in most of the people, but still the causes of tinnitus remain still unidentified in many patients. Those folk who do determine the cause of tinnitus may find it easier to treat because they can then eliminate the underlying problem. Damage to the inner ear or extensive exposure to loud sounds, buildup of wax, age related problems or stricture of ear bones are all very common reasons of the occurance of tinnitus.

A common cause of tinnitus is inner ear cell damage or damage to the find cochlear hairs that conduct sound to the ear drums. The sound waves move the delicate hairs located along the inner ear canal which in turn trigger the auditory nerve to produce electrical signals. These signals stimulate the brain and interpreted as a sound. If the inner ear or cochlear hairs are damaged they can send faulty impulses to the brain which can cause tinnitus.

The tinnitus is a type of hearing loss which is caused by age-related. Hearing decreases as they age goes is normal for many peoples. Such hearing loss may cause tinnitus because the nerves in the inner ear become weak.

One major cause of both hearing loss and tinnitus is prolonged exposure to loud noises. People who work around loud machinery, are exposed often to gun shots, motor explosions, or even listen to iPods or other devices often can experience ear damage. Long term exposure can lead to permanent damage and tinnitus,but short term exposure can cause tinnitus that goes away as the ear heals.

Earwax buildup is a frequent cause of hearing loss, and the pressure of wax buildup on the sensitive nerves in your inner ear can result in tinnitus. This is one cause of tinnitus that is easily remedied by removing the excess wax.

Various individuals suffer from congealing of the ear bone which is also known as otosclerosis. It is inherited and may result in growth of extra bone in the ear and may generate hearing loss and tinnitus.

While these are the most common know causes of tinnitus, some people never determine the sources of their problem. The stress, damage to the head and neck, tumors of the brain and hypertension may be the causes of the tinnitus according to doctor. Meniere’s disease is seldom found and is an inner ear disturbance which may produce tinnitus.

For all the causes of tinnitus there are various proper treatments for its reduction or elimination.
