We run a tight budget, but still indulge in a few luxury items and services to make our lives enjoyable. Here’s a list of a few of them.
1. Netflix. We don’t have it running all the time, in fact we like to watch movies for a month then put it on hold for 3 months, then watch another, then hold for 3 more. We don’t have quite enough movies in our list to watch them continuously and our daily lives are too busy anyway. But by putting it on hold it helps in two ways. We’re able to build up a list of movies to watch that are newer releases, and it makes us look like new customers to netflix each time we restart so we don’t have to wait as long for any new release we ask for.
2. House cleaning. This is a major luxury, but also a necessity. With both of us working jobs we don’t have time to clean the house very well. To keep the kids healthy we need a clean house so we pay someone to come in every 2 weeks to clean the bathrooms, kitchen, do some light dusting and vacuuming. Of course light cleaning is still required by us in between, but it saves me the trouble of any serious toilet cleaning and I hate to do that.
3. Dish Network. They are cheaper than the other options out there and they give us a good selection of channels without any hassle. The guide interface is easy to understand and only shows us the channels we subscribe to. Getting a pay per view movie or game is easy and makes sense.
